Adult Sports Taster Sessions Are A Success
Adult Sports Taster Sessions Are A SuccessA series of adult sports taster sessions organised over the summer has proved to be a big success. Activities consisted of basketball, golf, outdoor lawn bowls, rowing, sailing and tennis, and were organised by the sport and active lifestyles team at Huntingdonshire District Council as part of the Sport England funded DASH Project (Delivering Activity and Sport in Huntingdonshire).
All of the activities are run with local sports clubs, and provide a small taster into each sport with the aim of getting adults motivated enough to continue with it.
Councillor Tom Sanderson, whose executive responsibilities include sport and active lifestyles, said: "It's a great opportunity for people to try a new sport in a relaxed atmosphere with everyone being beginners. The range of different sports is great - there's something for everyone."
The team have received some positive feedback. One participant said: "Very motivational coaching. It was a sport I have always wanted to participate in, however lacked the courage to go as an adult as I have no previous experience. Having the taster session has encouraged me to join in more sporting activities."
More adult sports taster sessions are planned from October 2011 to January 2012, and will include climbing, golf, indoor target shooting, racketball, swimming and trampolining. All sessions are for 16 year olds and over, with prior booking required.
