'Four Swans Vision' Showcasing VI Disability Sports at Grundy Park

'Four Swans Vision' Sporting Event

We at Four Swans Vision are very proud to announce an exciting, unique event for visually impaired people living in and around Hertfordshire.
This is in response to members frustrations at not having adequate or no access to sports after losing eyesight. Over five hours has been designated to offer various sports and activities in one accessible place.
Formed by visually impaired people with a unique proactive approach to losing our eyesight, Four Swans Vision attempts to break through the barriers of stereotype.
As an all-inclusive event offering VI Football, VI Tennis, VI Cricket, Goalball, VI Archery and much more, interest has been shown by local Counsellors, Watford FC, Charles Walker MP and Iain Duncan Smith MP who have all agreed to attend the event.
Our Sports event has been formed to promote these small groups of visually impaired and sighted people, wanting to develop programmes for visually impaired people in Hertfordshire.  With eyesight loss set to soar over the next decade this is to be a testimony to achieving a purpose for all sports people to access.
In an article by Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt, he clearly illustrates the importance of sport for well being and health, and especially so for disabled people who are limited by their disabilities. Drawing from this article and discovering the lack of sports provisions in our area, Four Swans Vision invited groups to provide taster sessions.  It is to give visually impaired people a chance to experience sports again, to meet other blind/partially sighted people, and to encourage sports clubs to include VI sports into their programmes.
Sailing, rowing and walking groups have all been invited to attend. Over the next few months we hope to increase these facilities and attendees.
The day is not only designed for visually impaired people, but to give a practical chance for sighted people to experience playing VI sports using restricted viewing glasses. Both sighted and visually impaired coaches will be on hand to assist and demonstrate how using sound balls and having specific facilities assist in playing VI sport.
Michael Owens of the Mercury has already had a go, so click here to see his  article about his experience!
Over the next few months these posters (see above and below) will appear around the county, and we would appreciate you helping us spread the word.
