Eastern region first for 2484 Air Cadets

Two Cadets from 2484 Bassinbourn Squadron are the first in the Eastern Region to qualify for the Amateur Radio Foundation Licence through the Air Cadet Scheme.
Corporal Martin Walls and Corporal Alex Rowson-Brown have completed the first step to being able to contact other Radio Amateurs (Hams) all over the world. The Foundation Licence is recognized by the UK communications regulator Ofcom, and entitles each of the cadets to take a unique callsign which they will use to identify themselves when transmitting.
The Course was taken over a period of weeks, most of the training was practical and included how to build an antenna to get the most out of your radio station with some electronics theory about using the correct fuses in your equipment and this was followed by an exam.
Civilian Instructor Wijtse Powell said “The cadets worked very hard over a number of weeks to qualify for their licences and now intend to put them to good use.”
