5 things to do in Florence

Published: 19th September 2018 14:20

Italy is one of the best countries in the world and all the people aim to visit this place at least 1 time in their life. If you go to Italy, you cannot forget to visit Florence, where there is a lot to do for families, teenagers, couples and so on. So, let's see the best things to do in Florence

 1) Palazzo Vecchio

In Piazza della Signoria, you can immediately admire Palazzo Vecchio, which is the central seat of Florence district and museum of the Municipality of Florence. It is the palace of power par excellence. During the years when the city was the capital of Italy (1865/1871) in fact, the building has hosted the Italian Parliament and before the Unification of Italy was for centuries the seat of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and the Lordship of the Medici .

Let yourself be charmed by its imposing structure, made both by the height of the building and by the Torre di Arnolfo (almost 100 m), and by the use of rustic ashlar. Take some pictures and, if you want, visit it inside (not to waste time you should buy the ticket online skip queue), it is really worth it.

 2) Florence Cathedral

In Piazza Duomo, where the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore rises majestically and beautifully (wear clothes suitable for a place of worship if you do not deny entry) with Brunelleschi's Dome and Giotto's Bell Tower, both masterpieces of Italian art, absolutely worth a visit, and the Baptistery of San Giovanni. The dome, for its enormous size, its amazing height and the avant-garde construction technique that still represents one of the enigmas of the history of architecture, the bell tower for its slender style and its intricate and elegant decoration. The bell tower ends with a large terrace where you can enjoy a truly impressive panorama, the same that you can admire from the dome (you go up 463 steps, so be careful if you suffer from heart or claustrophobia). If you have the time and strength we suggest you get on one of the two so as not to miss the amazing view of the city.
