Independent Companies that Provide Niche Products

Published: 28th February 2020 15:20

Over the last few years, numerous organisations in various sectors have sought to reinvent their respective industries by developing a range of niche products. Primarily, these creations have come to fruition with the intention of providing consumers with trendier options than what is commonly available to them within high-street shops and supermarkets.

Because of this, we’re going to look at several UK-based companies that have developed niche products for the modern-day market.

While many industries have developed in recent times, the craft beer sector has flourished as a result of consumer desires for unique tastes that can’t be acquired with conventional alcoholic beverages. Typically, traditional beers have a generic bitter taste that is both yeasty and malty. While there are many different popular supermarket brands in modern-day society, each of them offers a similar tasting drinking experience that is not new to consumers.

HonestBrew, however, is one of many emerging craft beer producers seeking to bring unique products to the market. While their products draw on classic flavours, their brown ales, for example, ensure a sweet caramel and chocolate aftertaste. Additionally, the Charles Wells brewery, which has been based in Bedfordshire since 1876, seeks to produce sweet ales that mirror the taste of popular desserts. Their niche sticky toffee pudding ale follows on from their previous creation, a banana bread beer, in attempting to combine two popular flavours.

Along with independent companies within the United Kingdom developing unique-tasting alcoholic products, the trend of exploring new flavours has become of utmost importance to several industries. Tax Free Snus, for example, provides a number of different tobacco-based products that ensure alternate experiences to existing shop-bought options. While their goods are only available online, they offer a wide array of various Odens Snus in many flavours, including apple, cola, and spearmint.

Outside of the craft beer industry, innovation has also sought to revolutionise the chocolate-making sector, with independent businesses placing an emphasis on niche products to help them stand out from world-renowned brands. Instead of focusing their attentions on producing generically-shaped chocolate bars, the Wickedly Welsh Chocolate Company, which is a family-run business based in Pembrokeshire, uses their innovation to create chocolate pizzas, in addition to cheeses, kebabs, and much more.

Moreover, along with developing chocolate products that are unique regarding their shape, and because of the fact that the fitness and weight loss sector is one of the most profitable niche markets, UK-based companies, such as The Raw Chocolate Shop, are seeking to provide healthier alternatives to shop-bought options. The company makes various chocolate products which are made from cacao, the raw form of cocoa, in developing numerous unique products which are both healthier and more natural than many pre-existing mainstream goods.

A Consumer Demand for Niche Creations

Ultimately, it’s clear that whether it’s in the alcohol, chocolate, or tobacco markets, contemporary consumers are searching for quirky products that provide them with a different experience than what is on offer within regular stores. Furthermore, as demonstrated by creations such as the sticky toffee pudding ale, new and innovative developments aren’t confined to conventional flavours within their respective fields, with taste exploration being central to forward-thinking concepts.
