Two thirty in the morning was the time when the alarm was raised that our special Mom was about to give birth to her brand new baby foal. In the darkness our volunteers assisted the birth helping to make it easier for the new Mom. Within the hour we did have a lovely gorgeous baby foal. How proud we all felt seeing this little animal make its way in our world.
Sadly all this was to change very quickly as upon examination the foal was found to have a huge digestive problem. Our volunteers hastily took the foal to Leahurst for a better examination. It soon became apparent that he was not going to survive for any length of time even after being operated on. The Doctors told us newly name pony Merrylegs was not going to make it.
Now we had to make one of the hardest decisions anyone can ever make. Permission had to be given to put our little baby to sleep. It took all our strength to do this, but we realised there was no other choice. Sadly our foal only lived for 10 hours, but he will stay in our hearts for ever. Operations are not cheap the cost for our foal amounted to hundreds of pounds . Funds we just do not have.
