Christmas at Neston Library - Bells & Tots!

Festive Christmas Storytime for pre-schoolers proved very popular.
The afternoon included crafts, singing, playing musical instruments and, of course, Christmas stories read by two very festive-looking people. A special visitor arrived at the end, much to the delight of all the children.
In the evening, former Cheshire Poet Laureate Jo Bell returned to Neston Library with a festive selection of readings.
Ranging from Dickens and Auden to her own work, Jo presented a veritable pudding-mix of prose and poetry - some sweet, some fruity but all appropriate to the season. Well over 50 people braved particularly inclement weather to come to the library to sip mulled wine, eat mince pies and be entertained.
In addition to the poetry reading, the Burton Handbell Ringers provided a highly accomplished performance of some suitably festive music, at their first ever live concert.
The group are based at St Nicholas Church in Burton, where many of them can be found ringing the somewhat larger Church bells. They are now teaching children aged 7-11 at Bishop Wilson Primary School to ring Christmas Carols on hand bells for their own seasonal concert.
