Willaston Village Festival 2012 - In Pictures

The village of Willaston in Cheshire has celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the 2012 Olympics in considerable style.
Three days of festivities began on Friday with a Jubilee Concert featuring a number of talented local performers. It was followed by Willaston's first ever Drive-In Movie, an event that had been widely publicised through the hilarious 'trailer' organised by local resident Tony Bush and involving many villagers.
Willaston Festival Society member Joan Butcher said: "Everyone showed true British spirit. We had a little rain, but people still brought their barbecues, champagne and strawberries and enjoyed a great night."
The rain held off on Saturday for the Fancy Dress Parade, led by the Port Sunlight Lyceum Band. Local children threw themselves wholeheartedly into the challenge to dress up in either Jubilee or Olympics inspired costumes, as you will see in our photos below. Prizes for some of the best costumes were handed out by local councillor Myles Hogg and his wife Marilyn. It was a very tough task to judge, as all the participants had made such a fantastic effort.
The fair was declared officially open by former England U21 and Manchester United footballer Lee Martin.
As the afternoon went on, rain threatened some of the planned activities, but again that British spirit prevailed, and festival-goers enjoyed a Zumba demonstration from ZJ Events, Noise Pollution drummers, a dog show, a 'Memories' exhibition, musicians from Wirral Grammar School for Girls, Willaston Local Vocals, Little Thespians Drama Group, the Mersey Morris Men, Ellesmere Port Sea Cadets, Sambassadors, numerous stalls and refreshments and an array of classic cars.
Elsewhere in the Village there were further attractions, with both churches holding Flower Festivals, again themed on sports and royalty; houses and shops decorated in the Willaston in Red, White and Bloom theme and a Fashion exhibition in the Memorial Hall, displaying clothes styles from the Queen's 60 year reign.
The fun did not stop there, as a Barn Dance was planned for the evening, to be followed on Sunday by a Jubilee Big Lunch.
Here is a selection of our photographs taken on Saturday, below which are two slide-shows. The slide-shows cannot be viewed on some mobile devices, so if you are having any problems viewing them, please go straight through to our photostream on Flickr.
