Garden Centres & Nurseries in & around Neston
Did you know that there's a hidden gem of a destination for families in the CH64 area?
Welcome to Willaston Community Farm in Heath Lane, just off Hooton Road. It's a little-trumpeted delight, fun, welcoming and featuring lots of amusing signs and innovative ideas. You'll find a menagerie of goats, pigs, geese, ducks, rescued battery hens, ponies, peacocks, cats and even emus!
A friendly welcome with fun signs awaits.
There's no entry charge and, once there, you can get fresh eggs in exchange for a donation, with all proceeds going back into the care of the animals at the farm.
And that's not all....
Children will love the opportunity to see the animals and birds. Have a wander round, or book an interactive session by calling 0151 327 8911 or messaging the farm via their Facebook page.
Peppa and Chelsea will be happy to see you, along with the new batch of ducklings.
The petting farm side of this community enterprise will be expanding soon to include pony days, camps and parties. These will be a variety of opportunities to interact with the ponies, from simply meeting them, all the way through to an overnight stay, including grooming, mucking out and feeding. A new stables area has been developed to facilitate these activities, near the farm's Pond, with its imaginatively named 'Canary Wharf' viewing platform.
In development - safer access to the ponds.
And there's more....
Marsh Nurseries moved from Parkgate to Willaston Community Farm recently and all their beautiful indoor and outdoor plants are now available to purchase, along with compost and pots. In addition, the team offer a full-service plants and flowers service to local businesses. So if you'd like your pots, hanging baskets, seasonal displays and even Christmas trees all taken care of, give Paul Prosser a call on 0151 336 4078.
Planters sorted and delivered to another local business.
And that's still not all....there's also:
- Off-lead dog walking area - let your pooches run free in a safe, 70 sq metre environment with solo access available when required, plus doggie sand pit coming soon;
- Dog grooming;
- Logs, kindling and coal for sale;
- Shop-fitting/joinery service;
- Living roof development;
- Pond fun - currently the pond is being cleared and access improved, to allow for pond dipping, bug hunts and more;
- Foraging courses - coming soon;
- Resident watercolour artist;
- On site canteen - food and drink in exchange for donations to the Farm;
- Hot food from Aston's Tea Rooms in Willaston village can be ordered for groups, with staff from the Farm going to collect it and bring it back for you to enjoy on site.
Willaston Community Farm also has a link with the local NHS Foundation Trust through Willaston Surgery to offer people recovering from illness or who experience social isolation to have their own space to grow plants and get help and advice with their green-fingered efforts.
Signs of the times - it's all happening at Willaston Community Farm
Paul Jackson, who bought the land some 15 years ago, has a strong sense of community, seeing the project as good for the area, residents and staff. To that end, the Farm is in the process of becoming a Community Interest Company. Paul and the team also all support other local businesses as much as possible. Most importantly, they believe in 'keeping it real' for children - giving our young people the opportunity to step away from smartphones and tablets and enjoy being out in the fresh air.
Going potty...Mayor of Neston, Cllr Pat Kynaston, visited recently.
AboutMyArea and Neston Life will be keeping you updated as the range activities available at the farm continue to develop. In the meantime, why not go and have a look around at what's already there. It's fun, it's free and it's for the community.
Willaston Community Farm endeavours to keep most activities free of charge, but some may be run in exchange for a donation, which will go towards the continuing rescue work and running costs of the farm. For more details...
