CH64 Christmas Star Competition 2009

Published: 14th December 2009 12:04

Children from throughout the area unleashed their creativity to enter into the spirit of Christmas with the "Global Christmas Star" competition.

The competition was held as part of this year's Neston Christmas Festival. A total of 149 stars were entered, giving the judges quite a challenge!  The judges were Michelle Broughton of Neston High School, Susannah Hill of Neston Library and Angela Turner from ch64inc.

They found it very difficult to decide who had created the best CH64 Global Star from the wonderful entries they saw before them. However, following a round of shortlisting they chose two particular stars in joint first place as the designs had obviously been given a great deal of thought.

Angela Turner said: "Both had pictures of the world with one containing representations of the different aspects of Christmas and the other included flags and a Christmas message for the CH64 community.

"Joint second place went to two very different designs, one had a great deal of detail and was obviously hand drawn whereas the other was a very simple, colourful design which included a snowman.

"We also decided to award two very special discretionary prizes to two stars that were created by reception age children (their ages were confirmed by an impartial observer), as they felt a lot of effort had been put into the stars by younger children and had resulted in two very colourful contributions.

"The judges would like to make it clear that they did not know the identities or schools of the contributors prior to judging. They would also like to thank everybody who took part in the CH64 Global Star competition and say how much of a pleasure it was to judge the entries."

The winners and runners-up will receive gift vouchers to spend at The Potting Shed, courtesy of Neston & District Chamber of Trade.

The stars were strung together to create festive bunting which was displayed in the Town Centre during the Festival.  They took a fair bit of battering from the rain, but those that survived the elements are currently on display at Neston Community & Youth Centre in Burton Road.
