Hundreds of people attended the funeral and Requiem Mass of Father Gerry Courell at St Winefride's Church in Neston on Tuesday May 29th.
Father Courell was a passionate supporter of Tranmere Rovers
and served as Chaplain there for several years.
Father Courell died peacefully at Arrowe Park Hospital on May 19th, the Vigil of the Feast of the Ascension.
Many parishioners had attended a Vigil Mass on the evening of Monday May 28th, when Father Courell was brought home to the Church where he had been Parish Priest for over a quarter of a century.
On the day of the funeral, the Church itself was packed to overflowing, with many people standing or sitting outside, the service being broadcast to them through loudspeakers. A book of condolences was opened for people to leave their messages and memories.
Linda Pelling was kindly allowed to take a few photographs at both services, to allow us to record a very moving day when a very special man was laid to rest.
RIP Father Courell, 1945 - 2012.
