Burton Manor Back on Sale After Buyer Drops Out

Burton Manor in Burton Village, Neston, is back on the market after a preferred bidder of the seller backed out.

The owner of the Manor, Liverpool City Council, had wanted to sell to a developer, but after nearly 100 objections from local residents, the potential buyer pulled out.

The Friends of Burton Manor has now raised its own bid and are awaiting a response from the Council. The Friends' scheme has a 95% approval rate with the local residents.

Last week The Friends were awarded a Cheshire West and Chester Council sponsored Highly Commended certificate by the Mayor of Chester for their work at the restored Edwardian Glasshouse at the site.

Let us hope that Liverpool City Council can, now given a second chance, make a sensible decision on the sale of the Manor - is this beyond the bounds of possibility?? The least we should expect is that it can be placed in the hands of an owner who can develop the site in a way which is sympathetic to the existing historic building (the fabric of which has deteriorated significantly over the last several years) and that the valuable work which has been done, and continues to be done, by the Friends is respected and integrated within the development.

In my view any proposal that tries to fund restoration or safeguarding of the manor by building on land in the Green Belt - within the curtilage of the site - will fall foul of planning policy.
