Rural Watch in Neston Area Off to Encouraging Start

Neston police officers held their first Rural Watch meeting on Wednesday December 2nd, with local farmers, Councillor Nigel Jones and Cheshire West and Chester Council wardens.
PC Paul Barlow set up the initial meeting of farmers and presented to them. He explained that the aim of the Rural Watch programme is to build better relationships, improve communication, prevent under-reporting of rural crime and suspicious people in rural areas.
The initiative will promote the use of communication tools such as Cheshire Police Alert for rural farms and the use of SelectaDNA forensic marking kits (supplied free by CWAC and the police) amongst other crime prevention strategies.
Paul has been instrumental in driving the programme locally, bringing farmers together with the help of the chair of the M53 Farmers group. Sgt Daniel Greenhalgh said: "We want to drive this forward and encourage more of the farming community to get on board, along with stable yards and other rural locations.
"The meeting this week was the first, and was very encouraging. Closer ties will be vital in the fight against criminals who target rural communities and farms. In future these meetings will be held quarterly.
"If anyone would like more information or would like to attend meetings, please contact PC Paul Barlow via the 101 telephone line."
