Cyclists from the Wirral, Cheshire and Merseyside all joined forces yesterday in the annual Liverpool to Chester cycle.
Coming from all directions was an array of coloured lycra and smiling faces as participants began to arrive at the pit stop at our cycle town in Neston, organised and funded by neston Town Council.
In the Market Square, several local businesses were set up at their stations, ready to greet the cyclists as they arrived to our town. There were various refreshment stalls including Eatons - providing their delicious baked goods and home-made lemonade, Rich Coffee and Neston Community Youth Centre providing free fruit snacks and water top ups with the help of volunteers.
Eatons provided baked goods, rolls and cooling drinks for the riders.
Other organisations that helped out were the local police, providing free bike chipping for the participants; British Cycling with various offers at their stall, including entries to competitions and information on local cycle routes, and also Big Bill's Bikes, offering different products available to be purchased at his store.
Adding to the lively atmosphere was entertainment from local musicians. The Market Square was full of the sound of music, including the timeless "What a Wonderful World" alongside the chatter, laughter and enthusiasm from all the cyclists stopping by.
The riders were truly enjoying the day, stating that they had "met some interesting characters along the way" varying from "old men with fancy bikes" to "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and two actors from Liverpool.
Overall, it was a huge success for both the event and for Neston Cycle Town.
