40 Bags of Rubbish Cleared From Parkgate During Spring Clean

Parkgate Society Community Spirit enjoyed a successful morning Spring Cleaning in Parkgate on Saturday 4th March.
After a rather miserable few days last week, Saturday morning saw some fine dry weather for Parkgate's contribution to the Keep Britain Tidy's Spring Clean.
20 volunteers and two dogs pitched up to help give Parkgate a Spring Clean.
Twenty warmly clad volunteers (and two dogs) met at St Thomas' Church on Mostyn Square to collect their hi-visibility waistcoats, litter pickers and green council waste bags. After a safety briefing they set off to walk around Parkgate picking up litter and generally giving Parkgate a spring tidy up.
In a little over two hours forty bags of litter and rubbish were collected from the Marsh, Boathouse Lane, Manorial Road, Park Fields, the Ropewalk and the Wirral Way. Amongst the usual list of wine and spirit bottles (all empty), drinks cans, plastic bottles, ice cream spoons, dog ‘poo' bags etc. we also found a pair of trainers, a football, broken traffic cones and plastic garden planters. The latter dumped along with a large amount of garden peat all tipped over the railings onto the marsh.
One volunteer discovered obvious signs of a drinking den at the end of Manorial Road where he collected several dozen beer cans and wine bottles.
A considerable number of cans formed part of the detritus cleared by volunteers.
We all enjoyed the fresh air and exercise and the mornings efforts were richly rewarded with coffee and soup kindly provided by Laura and her staff at Mozkito's. A great mornings work and thank you to all involved. If you wish to find out more about the Parkgate Society Community Spirit please get in touch with David Johnson community@parkgatesociety.co.uk.
The next event for the Community Spirit volunteers will be a gardening event held in the Mostyn Square Car Park where we will be removing the fly tipped rubbish and clearing all the undergrowth of brambles and overgrown shrubs. We will be also be tidying up the overgrown pathways around the toilet block. Details of date and meeting time will be announced shortly.
