Neston Lights Up for Christmas and Steps Back in Time

Published: 4th December 2017 09:41

Neston Town Council once again hosted a Victorian Christmas Festival on December 2nd, to celebrate the coming festive season and to switch on the town centre's Christmas lights.

Over 50 stall holders did a brisk trade, selling a huge array of gifts, crafts and refreshments.  Entertainment was provided by singers, dancers and bands, including the Mockbeggar Morris Dancers, Capriccio Singers, Port Sunlight Sea Dogs, Neston High School, Port Lyceum Brass Band, Woodfall Primary School, Wirral Handbell Ringers, Little Actors and the Wirral Pipe Band.

Neston Rotary Club set up Santa's Grotto in the Town Hall basement, where the big man himself met local children and handed out Christmas gifts.

A spectacular light show from The Kat followed the switching on of the lights in the Market Square and town centre by the Mayor of Neston, Cllr Pat Kynaston, accompanied by Junior Mayor Grace Jones, Rev Alan Dawson and members of the Rotary Club.

Speaking after the event, the Mayor said: "The Council would like to record its thanks to Claire, our Assets & Events Manager, who has been the driving force in organising the day. She has been actively supported by Nicky, our Council Support Officer, with background support by the remaining staff and Councillors. Thanks also go to Neston Rotary for their continued support of this event."

To complement the Victorian theme, this year there was a taste of Steam Punk in amongst the stalls and entertainers, offering some great photo opportunities.

HUGE congratulations to everyone who took part in this fabulous event. Did anyone get a photo of Rev Alan Dawson? He gets my vote for best-dressed in show with Sion Jones a close second! Well done everyone!
