Neston's Music Festival got off to cracking start with a sell-out concert at the Civic Hall.
The only people disappointed were those who had left it too late to get tickets. Half the tickets were sold in the week before the event, with around 150 attendees wowed by the Brownfield-Byrne Hot Six.

For the next event, Friday's concert by the Deva Brass Quintet at the Neston Methodist Church, tickets aren't needed, but for Saturday's Mersey Morris Men's Ceilidh (£13 including fish and chips) ring 0151 347 1685 for availability.
Saturday's band was exceptional with Liam Byrne's arrangements subtle and exciting, and truly inspired solos. They were hot without being traditional. They played a varied programme, including New Orleans Street Beat with two parasol parades, wonderful Ellington and were joined by singer Grace Williams with sensitive delightful vocals including a non-seasonal 'Autumn Leaves. Jamie on trumpet proved that he is no longer a 'rising star', but is well and truly at the top.
