The 2018 Neston Village Fair took place on Saturday 30th June in belting sunshine on Comrade's Field.
Rose Queen Cassie Wilkie (far right) with her attendants Grace Jones (far left) and Mya Bridgwater (middle).
Thanks to the time and efforts of a number of volunteers, plus sponsorship from local businesses and Neston Town Council, thousands of people enjoyed a full programme of entertainment, an array of stalls, fabulous refreshments and a raft of activities.
The Rose Queen and her attendants this year were from Neston Primary School - Cassie Wilkie, Mya Bridgwater and Grace Jones, who were ferried to the field by members of North Cheshire Car Club and Wirral Classic Car Club.
Rev Alan Dawson, the Vicar of Neston, opened the fair then welcomed the Mayor of Neston, Cllr Pat Kynaston to say a few words of thanks to all the organisers of the event. She then crowned the Rose Queen and the fair got underway.
The Mayor of Neston, Cllr Pat Kynaston, and Rev Alan Dawson, opened the fair and the Rose Queen was crowned.
Entertainment, compered by Tony Cooke, came from the choirs of Neston Primary and Woodfall Primary Schools, Little Actors Theatre Company with InterACT Youth Theatre, Parade Jazz Band (sponsored by MGC Solicitors) and the myriad talents of Hip & Harmony CIC's Street Dancers, Community Choir and 64'Ukes.
Hip & Harmony's Street Dancers - just one of several highly entertaining groups performing on the day.
A grand raffle took place, with the main prize courtesy of Andrew's Estates. Elephant Coffee brought along their vintage coffee bus and set up the beer tent, much to the relief of hundreds of thirsty fair-goers in the sweltering heat. A round of applause to the Elephant bar staff who, with the 'coolers' for the beers and ciders generating considerable heat, had the hottest legs on the field!
Coping admirably with the heat, Elephant's Billy and Becky.
The Burger stall did a grand trade, as did Cheshire Chutney Company's Nick Marsh's fabulous pork pies, sausage rolls and pasties, raising funds for the 2375 Squadron Air Cadets.
The community car scheme needs more volunteer drivers.
Numerous community organisations ran stalls or organised activities, including Neston Players, the Ellesmere Port and Neston Community Car (more volunteer drivers needed, please!), Neston Community Youth Centre, Neston Rotary Club, the RSPB, Hinderton Guides, Wirral Institute of Advanced Motorists, Neston Civic Society, the Parkgate Society, Friends of Lees Lane Ponds, Ness and Little Neston WI, Neston High School's Coconut Shy and many more. A particularly spine-tingling stall featured snakes and creepy crawlies, courtesy of 'Reptilicious'.
Neston High School's coconut shy proved as popular as ever.
Proceeds from the event, as always, will go to good causes in the area. Another great community day, well done to everyone involved in the organisation, particularly the Village Fair Committee led by Keith Moores.
