Latest News from Neston Police

Neston & Rural Beat Manager PC Vicky Reid updates AboutMyArea readers on what's been happening recently.

Anti-Social Behaviour - Millennium Bridge, Bridge Street, Neston

There have been several recent reports of youths throwing items from the bridge onto the road, including dog poo taken from the bin on the bridge, endangering the public and drivers. Damage has been caused to one vehicle. Police request assistance from the public to catch the individuals responsible.

Arrest Made

In the early hours of the morning of 19th August, witnesses in Raby Park Road, Neston, reported a male swinging a piece of wood and causing damage to property.  Police attended and located a male matching the description nearby.  He was arrested and later charged with two offences of damage to vehicles, one offence of damage to property and three offences of attempted criminal damage.  He will appear in court this week.

Ram Raid - McColls, Willaston on 22nd August

Police were called following an attack at the shop in the early hours of the morning. The attackers had rammed the front of the shop with their vehicle and attacked the cash machine but were disturbed by police.

Police are following up enquiries and forensic leads.

Thanks to PC Vicky Reid for updating us on some of the work she and the other police have been doing.
Years ago when people dropped bags of dog muck from the Millennium Bridge the container in Station Road was altered so that they could not retrieve bags.
Good to see the engagement events, and looking forward to the upgrading of Sytchcroft Park.

The update is appreciated. However the well know group of youths who are causing the problems on the Millenium Bridge are also causing lots of problems in other areas of our town. Moving them on from the bridge area only pushes the issue elsewhere.

They were in the park again today causing a number of problems which have been reported to police. Some long-term solution using a multi agency approach needs to be found for this growing gang and the parents who aren't taking responsibilities for their children.

I am starting to think that the Police strategy is that they are happy with the displacement of the problem away from the centre and down the Wirral way to the fields and the relative isolation as the kids are less likely to cause major disruption.

I am not sure the farmer would agree who ends up with broken glass and all manner of other rubbish in his hay bails or the dog walkers who have to tolerate the drunken aggression from the teenagers. Or the people who live close to the edges of the village.

The Police know who the ring leaders are. can you not join up the dots and knock on some doors?

I have given up ringing in on 101.

Another big problem with 101 is the "we are experiencing a high volume of calls" message then being on hold for sometimes half an hour, and that isn't an exaggeration. I think a lot goes unreported because 101 is busy, or not taken seriously and it doesn't warrant a 999 call so people just give up.

I don't want to overburden the already thin blue line but you get a much better response using Crimestoppers.

But ideally, you have to be actually reporting an offence. A lot of what the average Joe sees is the slow erosion of quality of life occurrences which they just want to make sure go on the record.

I try to be pragmatic about things as generally, we live in a great safe town. I work in and around Salford and North Manchester where our eams are sometimes verbally and physically attacked trying to carry out their role.

That said, there are a few dealers that need stopping in their tracks in Neston and maybe, just maybe, a few parents may want to have a go at parenting.

You need to log in before you can do that! It's only a quick registration process to join the AMA network and completely free.
