And the Winner Is....Neston Business Awards 2018

Business people from throughout the Neston area attended the annual 'Out of Office - a Christmas Celebration of Business in Neston' event at the Brewers Arms on Wednesday 5 December.
Hosted by Neston & District Chamber of Trade and Neston Town Council, there were free drinks available and a buffet generously provided by Paul Smith, landlord of the Brewers Arms.
Awards were handed out at the event.
Taking on MC duties for the evening was Deputy Chair of the Chamber, Andrew McLoughlin of MGC Solicitors. He welcomed guests with a few words about the Chamber of Trade and the benefits it brings to local businesses, and encouraged any non-members to get in touch with the Secretary to join up.
Next came the awards. The first one, Best Customer Service, relies on the public to nominate their favourites. The Long Standing Business Award is made by the Chamber, as is the New Business of the Year. Neston Town Council decide who will be Market Trader of the Year.
The Mayor of Neston, Cllr Pat Kynaston, handed over two awards, with Andrew doing the honours for the other two. Unfortunately David Clarke of Rightway was unable to attend, so his award was collected on his behalf by his fellow former Chair of the Chamber, Carrie Spacey.
Here are the details of the winners - our congratulations to all of them and to the others who were nominated for the Best Customer Service award.
Best Customer Service (as voted for by the public) - Mozkitos Coffee House. Recipient - Laura Spencer
(l-r) Laura Spencer, Cllr Pat Kynaston, Andrew McLoughlin
Members of the public were invited via AboutMyArea Neston to nominate their favourites for Best Customer Service. 10 different businesses made the shortlist, which is a testament to how many great businesses there are in the local area. Coming a very close second was My Gift Place (now re-branded as Paisley Grey).
The well deserved award goes to Mozkitos.
Opened in 2013, Mozkitos has built up a regular clientele and also attract passing customers. This doesn't happen by accident. Small, but beautifully formed, Mozkitos offers good food and efficient service with a smile.
They are also very much part of the Parkgate community and support special events such as the Christmas Carols on the Donkey Stand event in December.
Long Standing Business of the Year - Rightway Ltd. Recipient - David Clarke
David was unable to attend, but his award will be presented to him at a later date.
Rightway was founded in 1988 by David as a sole trader. He took over the former Thermacon business on the same site, when owner Jack retired. David had worked as a part-timer at the store during weekends and holidays whilst at university.
Expansion began with the opening of branches in West Kirby and New Ferry. David's wife, Heather, ran the West Kirby store for a while, eventually joining David at the Head Office in Neston as Company Secretary as the business grew. Rightway Ltd took over Bevans in 2008 and now has 20 stores across North Wales, Wirral and Cheshire, employing over 120 people.
David has been a long-standing member of the Chamber, serving twice as Chairman. He is also a strong supporter of local business and has given his time freely to help run town centre promotions and support local charities. He was a founder member of the Neston and District Community Fund, which has supported a number of vital projects in the area.
David and Heather now enjoy well-earned breaks in their home-from-home in South Africa, but still maintain a strong presence at the helm of this highly successful Neston-based business.
New Business of the Year - Neston Building Supplies. Recipient - Colin Berry
Colin Berry, Andrew McLoughlin
Birkenhead Building Supplies under the ownership of the Pilgrim family opened its 3rd branch (after Ellesmere Port Building Supplies) on Clayhill Industrial Estate in March 2014.
The fact that two previous merchants opened here and failed is a testament to the manager, Colin Berry, who has grown the business from employing just 3 staff to now employing 9 staff with a turnover in excess of £2 million a year.
Colin's knowledge of the industry and the building companies in the area have been born out of in excess of 25 years' experience across many of the merchants on the Wirral.
This respect and knowledge that he possesses in no small part has led to the vibrant operation of the Neston Building Supplies team - on our own industrial estate in Neston. That by association brings more trade onto the Clayhill Estate and into Neston and by consequence makes the firm a worthy winner of this award.
Market Trader of the Year - Nick White
Nick White, Cllr Pat Kynaston, Andrew McLoughlin
Nick has the Deli and Meat stall on the Friday Market. He is a long-standing trader who is always there, every week, come rain, shine, snow or high winds. His stall is very popular with his loyal customer base and he is always friendly, helpful and courteous.
Nick is also very supportive to staff and councillors with their plans to improve and enhance the market, Neston Town Council would like to congratulate him and his team on this well-deserved award.
