Police Reassure Public Over Suspicious Activity in Neston Park

Published: 22nd February 2019 09:29

Cheshire Police are reassuring the public after reports of 'suspicious' men taking photographs at the newly revamped Sytchcroft Park in Neston.

Officers investigated following concerns raised last Saturday.  PC Victoria Reid said: "We have traced the two males involved and they have fully co-operated with us, showing us the photos that were taken.

"These photos are of the males themselves on the new equipment as they were appreciating the new park. There was no sinister motive."

On Thursday of this week, police held one of their activity sessions at Sytchcroft Park, which was well attended by local young people, who participated in football, XBox and Playstation games.  More sessions will take place during other school holidays this year, keep an eye on AboutMyArea for details.

I feel really strongly that it should be understood that anyone is perfectly within their rights to take photos in a public place, even of children, EVEN without permission as long as they are not indecent photographs. Why were these men questioned - did someone report them as taking indecent images ? Or was it a total over-reaction to an innocent event? What does 'suspicious' mean in this context?
