Brums & Buns VIII: 'Bemand's Bandits'

Neston-based Brums enjoyed another day out recently, with John Cartlidge reporting on their shenanigans for AboutMyArea.
The cool misty morning of Sunday February 17th saw 35 or so cars assemble on Smithy Hill in Thornton Hough, all drivers and occupants anticipating a motoring adventure.
We were headed to Ponderosa Café on Horseshoe Pass near Llangollen to join the Standard Triumph Club (North Wales) and share their monthly ‘Bacon Butty Meet'.
Our glorious leader for the trot was Ted Bemand in his equally glorious Panhard and whilst our outbound route was conventional, Ted had plans to lead only the most brave homeward bounder upon a far more death defying escapade.
Leader of the Pack - Ted Bemand
Every decade from 1940's to present day was represented by the touring group with Morris, MG's, DeLorean, Morris Minor, Lotus, Healey, Jags, Rovers etc. We even had a Nissan Elgrand van complete with a full compliment of dogs and a Lotus Espirit finished in such a bright shade of orange it most certainly would be visible from space. Ted's road leadership skills proved to be superb with the group arriving as one at Ponderosa at around 10.35 am despite the many junctions and traffic lights.
We had been advised to get to Ponderosa earlier than originally planned to ensure parking space, and whilst it was busy when we got there, there was a lovely clear area marked ‘COACH PARKING' which we helpfully read as ‘coach built parking', which at least one of our merry brigade was and we settled in very nicely thank you.
Other special mentions of the day go to Martyn Davies, Gary McKelvey, Cliff Heald and Reg Webster.
Martyn brought a magnificently awful looking 1981 Triumph Acclaim, automatic, brush painted (badly) in matt black, and purchased for the princely sum of £400.00 just a few days before the trip, and thought such a run would be a suitable first drive...Fair play - no issues reported.
Gary lives near Denbigh, but came over to Thornton Hough to join in the run with us.
Cliff kindly turned out to assist at Thornton Hough and stayed behind to wrangle any latecomers after the main group had set off.
Reg indeed took Ted's assurance of adventure at face value, and has reported the life and health changing nature of Ted's Worlds End excursion. Simon (Thornton) was his passenger and has not been seen since.
A huge thanks to all who joined in; we had a grand trip out. Our next event is Mothering Sunday on 31st March.
