John Barnes - Quite the Catch at Neston Cricket Club

An outstanding catch by former Liverpool and England footballer John Barnes was one of the highlights at a charity cricket match held in Parkgate recently.
It was a great day of cricket and fundraising for the Tim Cogley Cardiac Screening Foundation.
John Barnes and Jan Molby were amongst the players.
The day started with a carvery for 160 guests, courtesy of the new head chef at the Parkgate Clubhouse - Graham Brown. Once the Carvery was over, teams were drawn and play began.
The Select XI captained by Neston stalwart and one of the main organisers, Phil Davis, set a total of 88 from their overs. Highlights of the innings were the phenomenal slip catch from John Barnes early on, which helped slow the scoring rate of the select XI, following a great start from Michael Thomas and Tom Ince.
In reply, the Cogley Select XI, Captained by Adam Cogley, got off to a flying start with John Barnes opening the batting. Highlights of the second innings included the wicket of Dan Ince, bowled by Michael Thomas and caught by wicket keeper Paul Ince.
With Paul Ince largely taking over the captaincy duties of moving the field every other ball, the game came to an exciting climax with the Cogley XI needing just 3 runs from the final 2 balls with Jan Molby at the crease. Tom Ince bowled superbly well and despite Jan Molby taking a quick single it was not quite enough and the Select XI ended victorious.
The event attracted quite a crowd to enjoy the match and hospitality.
Neston Cricket Club General Manager Craig Stubbs said: "It was an absolutely brilliant day and we are extremely proud to have been involved in the organising and staging of the event for such a wonderful charity.
"Over £1500 was raised for the Tim Cogley Cardiac Screening Foundation and we are already looking forward to next year's rematch!"
