Neston High School opened its school gates to the public for its first ever Health and Wellbeing fair - "Ways to Wellbeing" - on October 12, in the same week as World Mental Health day.
The event saw over 70 health and wellbeing professionals from a range of services exhibiting their services at the school.
Keith Simpson, Head Teacher, said: "Mental health and wellbeing has always been something I am really passionate about.
"Feelings of wellbeing are fundamental to the overall health of an individual, enabling them to successfully overcome difficulties and achieve what they want out of life. We wanted to hold an event that would showcase what is on offer in the local community and get people talking about their wellbeing."
Dr Zeyn-Hyder, Head of Careers, said: "Our wellbeing event aimed to educate people to make positive choices around their own health and wellbeing through engaging in physical activities, health screenings, relaxation sessions and informative workshops.
"We wanted as many people as possible to come along to experience free taster sessions in meditation, yoga, reiki, reflexology and much more. People from the community were able to pose questions to mental health professionals and lifestyle experts all under one roof."
Apart from free holistic therapy sessions, people were also able to attend a session from David Bolton who, having beaten cancer twice, continues to defy all odds, outliving his current terminal diagnosis by becoming a motivational speaker. He said: "A superb well organised event that I believe is very much needed in today's modern world.
"An informative full day highlighting the importance of mental health and resilience, physical exercise and nutrition. All done through health screenings, relaxation sessions and informative workshops which ranged from fitness, yoga, meditation classes, food stalls and holistic therapy stalls.
"They even had kids' activities which included farm animals. On closing the event I was approached by delegates as well as members of the public and their feedback was truly overwhelming."
Also taking place was the Health and Wellbeing Conference sponsored by Nullam Wellbeing, which allowed delegates to engage with various workshops, ranging from adult resilience in the workplace to "Walking on Custard", a workshop by a local comedian and author on how he dealt with anxiety.
One attendee wrote: "This event has inspired me to make more time for me. I had never tried mediation before and I will definitely do that again. I am looking forward to the next steps to looking after my wellbeing."
The Ways to Wellbeing Fair will become an annual event which will take place every October. Watch this space for further updates.
