23 Nov 2019 - Neston Flicks - The Keeper

Published: 6th November 2019 09:34
The Keeper

The Keeper tells the incredible true story of Bert Trautmann (David Kross), a German soldier and prisoner of war who, against a backdrop of British post-war protest and prejudice, secures the position of Goalkeeper at Manchester City, and in doing so becomes a footballing icon.

Struggling for acceptance by those who dismiss him as the enemy, Bert's love for Margaret (Freya Mavor), an Englishwoman, carries him through and he wins over even his harshest opponents by winning the 1956 FA Cup Final, playing on with a broken neck to secure victory. But fate will soon twist the knife for Bert and Margaret, when their love and loyalty to each other is put to the ultimate test.

"It deserves to be seen for lots of reasons. Chiefly, because it truly is a heck of a story." - Rotten Tomatoes

"An uplifting tale of courage and desire to prove your worth in the world, with a lot more to offer people who aren't attracted to a football-based drama... one of the best films of the year." - filmandtvnow.com

Neston Flicks is a friendly community cinema, run by local volunteers.

Films run on the last Saturday of the month at Neston Civic Hall, from September to May.

Come and enjoy the usual Flicks formula of hot food, cake, licenced bar and great atmosphere at Neston Civic Hall. Doors open 6pm for the chance to enjoy a drink from the bar, a bowl of homemade scouse with crusty bread, or a slice of fresh cream cake. Films start at 7pm, with an interval halfway through, and usually finish around 9pm with a round of applause for the wonderful team of volunteers who make it all happen!

Scouse is in high demand, so to guarantee you get a bowl, please buy a food voucher in advance as it sells out fast on the night. Pick up tickets and food vouchers from NCYC reception, Paisley Grey or online here.

For all films, doors open 6pm and films start at 7pm.

Tickets £5 or £3 for 16s and under.
