Local resident and cycling enthusiast Brian MacDonald has rounded up a few local cycling opportunities that Neston riders may like to join in with.

Willaston / Local

A very local cycling group, suitable for beginners, meets every Tuesday from 7-9.30pm at Hadlow Road Station from 1 May to 1 September, then from the Nag's Head Pub in Willaston from 2 September to 30 April - bring good lights.

An average of 86 riders meets weekly in summer and they go off on 7-8 different speeds / distances. Contact Brian by email for more information.

Cheshire & Merseyside

A road group meets every Thursday, suitable for mature, confident riders. Moderate and brisk day rides of 40 to 80 miles. Visit http://www.chestereasyriders.co.uk/ for more information.

Rides from Eureka

Another road club, a bit easier and suitable for beginners meets every Sunday and Wednesday at 09:45 for a day ride from the Eureka Cafe on the A540 at Two Mills. See http://www.ctcchesterandnwales.org.uk/.

Routes for cyclists over the whole of the UK (the blue Sustrans 56 + 568 signs) can be found on the Sustrans homepage: National Cycle Network.

Since this was first published in Sept 2019, I have had responses and thought of more cycle groups and clubs, ESPECIALLY FOR WOMEN ONLY.
If you wake up one day and think it's a good week to go riding but are not sure where or when, then see

Wirral Bicycle Belles meet monthly on a Saturday, usually at Port Sunlight, and have a blog:

Another very friendly easy-going group for women cyclists is
The Chester Fabulous Ladies cycling club hold monthly rides one Saturday morning a month, averaging 12-20 miles in the morning, at about 10 - 12 mph. Since Autumn 2012 they have also offered choice of a 'faster further' group, who travel at about 13-15 mph, for more experienced riders; and in Feb 2014 a beginners group was also added. They always return to our starting point, which is Kingsway cafe in Chester.

merrymac - Hopefully all your members always carry identification on them in case they are involved in an accident. They should also be covered by insurance otherwise they could be held personally liable and have to cover the costs should they knock someone down, run over an animal etc.

You need to log in before you can do that! It's only a quick registration process to join the AMA network and completely free.
