Archaeology
We've received the following update from AOC Archaeology:
The archaeological remains on Brook Street, which consist of sandstone walls and cobbled surfaces and represent the remains of 19th-century have now been recorded and will be removed in order to check for earlier archaeological remains beneath the walls and surfaces. Mechanical excavation will be used to remove the archaeological remains, and is programmed to take place Monday 6 April.
Further back from the street frontage, there is further sequence of sandstone walls and cobbled surfaces, which are almost certainly related to a building, which is depicted on an estate map of 1732.
At the rear of the site a number of probable pits and ditches have been identified which are likely to relate to former property boundaries and attempts at rubbish disposal. They are currently being investigated in order to obtain dating evidence.
AboutMyArea has also learned from direct conversation with the on-site archaeologists that initial indications are that the foundations uncovered are from a Farmhouse that once occupied the site. The original cobbles from the Farmhouse Courtyard can seen in the photograph accompanying this article.
Samples of the uncovered building works are to be removed for further analysis before the area is re-filled. Attention will then move to the Raby Road side of the car park to discover what lies beneath the surface.
The results and findings of the archaological investigation will eventually be published in a formal report, copies of which will be available for everyone to read at Neston Library - however no deadline for publication is yet known.
Ladies Day
The developers, CTP Limited, have confirmed that they will amend their construction programme to prevent any disruption to Neston's Ladies Day fair and parade. CTP have said that work will not start on site until after Sunday 8 June 2009 and this will not affect the intended opening date of the Sainsbury's store in late 2010.
Good Friday Market
The traditional Good Friday Market will be open as usual, operating from Raby Road car park on Friday 10 April 2009. Attractions at the Market will include an Easter Bonnet Parade, face painting and an Easter egg hunt - all starting at 10am.
Children and parents taking part in the parade should assemble at the back of
Neston Town Hall building at 10am for the start of the parade, which will make its way through the Market area. Easter Bonnet judging will take place in the Town Hall after the parade.
Town Centre Car Parking
We're pleased to announce that an agreement has been made with the Neston Royal British Legion for the use of their private car park. This means that non-Legion members can use the car park between 8am and 6pm Monday to Saturday. There will be no charge for the use of the car park but the Legion have asked that all vehicles leave by 6pm, to make sure the car park is available for their members each evening.
Public use of this car park can start on Monday 6 April 2009.
