Neston Town Centre Redevelopment News - 16/04/09

Town Centre Improvements

As mentioned in last week's Update, contractors will begin work on a number of town centre improvement projects next week. Work is planned to start on 20th April and is expected to take around four weeks to complete. The works will be carefully planned to minimise disruption to the town centre.

Initially, work will start on the Chester Road Car Park on Monday and this will be done in phases to allow some parts of the car park to remain open. Access onto the car park from Chester Road, Brook Street and via the pedestrian links with the High Street will be open on Monday, although some traffic management measures may be necessary from time to time.

The council and the contractor will keep you informed of the programme of works through these weekly updates and on-site signage.

Plans for the next four weeks include the following:

Chester Road Car Park

• Work to create additional spaces and a safer environment for pedestrians and drivers
• Repairs and improvements to lighting and signage
• Improvements to the access onto the car park from Chester Road (making the access wide enough for two vehicles)
• Removal and lowering of kerb stones to help movement around the car park
• Work will be phased so there will always be some parking available on the site - notices will highlight the areas where parking is still available

Pennington's Weint and Pyke's Weint

• Surfacing work to create a safe pedestrian route from the Chester Road Car Park onto the High Street

Town Hall Frontage Scheme

• Creation of a disabled drop-off lay-by
• Landscaping and improved disabled access to the building will be covered in a separate work programme
