Neston Public Realm Improvements 2014 - Photo Diary Part 9
|Published: 17th April 2014 12:42|
As the public realm improvement works draw to a close in Neston, we bring you this week's Photo Diary.
ALL TOWN CENTRE ROADS ARE NOW OPEN!!!
Our article is being published a day early due to the public holiday tomorrow, which means that the 'End of Week' shots further down are not quite the end of the week. We will bring you one final round-up next week when everything has been tidied up.
Resurfacing work on the carriageways in the centre of the town has been completed.
After the weekend, there will be some tidying up and finishing off to be done which will, in most cases, only require brief coning-off of some small areas. However, on Tuesday and Wednesday, 22 and 23 April there will be additional temporary traffic lights (no complete road closures though).
Brook Street will be resurfaced at a future date, again to be determined, which will also require a brief closure. Advance notice will be given.
Now that the work is very nearly completed, it is obviously a significant improvement on what was there before. Whilst the issue of whether the work should take place polarised public opinion, most will now agree it looks good. Was it worth the pain of getting there? On that I am sure people will never agree.
All that said, I think it is well worth saying a huge thank you to the businesses of Neston who have put up with the interruption to trade and to the people of Neston who continued to come into town to shop this week despite the difficulties in getting from a to b. Your support for local businesses is always appreciated, but never more so than in a situation like this.
This weeks photos are, again, thanks mainly to Rob Clive who has done a fantastic job of following the programme of work for us. Bernard Rose also joined in for 'The Lighter Side' this week, again thanks for your contributions. It's a bumper crop of Lighter Side pics this week, so if you're not bothered with the serious stuff, scroll down!
This week was pretty much all about resurfacing the road, but also work was carried out on the pavement around Tesco into Brook Street and outside John Evans:

The Lighter Side
We've seen some amusing aspects to the work, thanks to the efforts of Rob and Bernard over the last few weeks. I think this first photo this week might well be the winner though - what do others think?
Rob: Not everyone is taking to Neston's new look.
Bernard: Special road signs have been made to warn people of the potential hazards during the road works in Neston.
Rob: Next up in Neston's dog agility class is six year old Jack.
Bernard: Wheelbarrow art.
Rob: These 4x4s think they own the road.
Bernard. What is the collective noun for road-workers?
Rob: My money's on the cyclist.
Bernard: Local barber is first to try out the new tarmac.
Rob: Aah, they'll soon be saying that about Neston.
Bernard: The tulips are looking great this time of year....shame no-one can see them!
Rob: This is NOT what it looks like.
Rob: He's not, he's just very thorough.
Rob: Too early mate, back to your tarring.
