Earle Drive Post Box - here we go again!

Published: 11th July 2008 12:39

Yet again it would appear that vandals and/or thieves have forced the closure of the Post Box at the top of Earle Drive

Earle Drive Post Box

It had not long re-opened after an extended period of being taped up. So, what is it this time? And how long will we be inconvenienced by this?

If it is being regularly vandalised, then a tamper-proof box should be installed, and there should be increased police patrols in the area. The siting of this particular post box is extremely convenient for many members of the community. Surely the actions of a mindless few should not have such long-term effects on the law-abiding majority?

Interesting use of a council re-cycling bag too - but one does wonder if this is the sort of metal they had in mind for recycling in the pink bags!

What do others think? And, can we have some sort of official response either from Royal Mail or the local police?

Its not only Earle Drive that is having a problem with vandalised facilities - the post boxes on Liverpool Road and Drake Road are regular targets too. Also take a look at the phone box (or what is left of it) on Drake Road - not a pretty site. There is clearly a lack of a police presence in Neston after the normal working day and while this situation continues the vandalism continues.

This is getting ridiculous now. Something needs to be done in terms of prevention, but also, if this is happening all over the area, why on earth can't the culprits be caught? How hard can it be to keep watch on a post box for goodness sake?!

Also, is it vandalism? That's bad enough, but if it's theft, what are they after? And, if it's theft, that's not a minor crime, it should be treated with all seriousness, and as a matter of some urgency.

We have received the following message from Sgt Paul Bluck of Neston Police:

"The post box in Earle Drive Neston . There have recently been a number of thefts from post boxes in the Neston area, most recently from the box on the corner of Earle Drive and Leighton Road( reported at 4am on 5/7/08) .
The Post Office have temporarily blocked off the appertures to encourage people to use other boxes. A notice explaining that the post box is unavailable for a short period should also have been attached. The post boxes are now being re-enforced by placing metal strips along the collection door. Police are appealing for any witnesses to the thefts.

Any information please contact Cheshire Police on 0845 458000 and ask for a message to be left for attention of Sgt Bluck at Neston Police station."
