Former Neston Resident Edgar Jones Seeks Old Friends

Author: Edgar Jones Published: 23rd October 2013 09:38

My name is Edgar Jones. I was Neston born and bred and now live in Cape Town, having moved here when I was 22 years of age.

Edgar JonesEdgar Jones, pictured around the time he left
Neston for Cape Town.

I went to Neston Primary School with Polly Hodgson and Granny Reese, our teachers were Mr & Mrs Llewellyn and Mr Exton. I passed my 11 plus and went to Wirral Grammar for 5 years

I played football for Parkgate Rovers, Marshlands, Ness Nomads and Neston Nomads. Names I played with were Tubby Fewtrel, Terry Woodhouse, Ray Garner,Herb Gerrard and Mick Williams.

I was captain of the Bellringers at the Parish Church with Mr East as Vicar and Bishop Tubbs as Curate. Henry Norman was also there with me. Remember Halls Cake Shop at the Cross and Old Tim Grimes Hide out at the Bus Stop?

My Father Joe Jones built Knowles Edge near Frank Norman at the bridge on Marshlands Rd which was originally the brick field.

I am coming back to Neston next year for a visit. Any chance of a Reunion with my mates from 1962?

Edgar Jones

I am sorry to be so late Edgar but I have only just found your site. My name is Alan Jones and I played at outside right in the Parkgate team that won the cup against Cammel Lairds at the Oval when you scored with a header. George [TUBBY] Fewtrell is still around as is Mick Williams, sadly Herbie Gerrard has died. I don't know about the others. I still have a photo of that team which I can send if you want. Alan.

Wow Thanks Allan. Remember you well. You lived in Eldon Terrace by the Neston Primary school close to Frank Jones who was left half with Henderson the Painters. I was best man for Erb and sad to hear we have lost him. Give my regards to Tubby Fewtrell . I remember he married Ann Lee and I met him last at my stepmothers Funeral. I remember Terry (Mouse) Woodhouse scored and also Winston Evans . I remember we won 4-3 and Andrew Cavanagh was our coach after drawing at Prenton Park. I was over last year and spent the afternoon with Mick Williams who I was also Best Man for . Ray Garner was inside right to you for this game. Would really Treasure a photo which I remember was in the local paper at the time. My E mail address is rejones@mweb.co.za.
Wonderful to hear from you Allan.
