John Wesley plaque - any ideas?

This plaque appears on a wall in Parkgate Road, Neston

The photograph was taken by Chris Smith who runs the Flickr group for Neston, CH64 (new members always welcome).
Chris says: "The sign marks a visit from John Wesley 250yrs ago. There is a Wesley close about 250 yds away on a small 1980's estate, no doubt so named because of this plaque. What intrigues me is why someone thought this single visit worthy of installing a plaque? I also wonder when it was installed?"

John Wesley visited Neston many times, on his way to Ireland via Parkgate when it was a port. However, I'm not sure why a plaque was mounted to commemorate a specific visit on that date. Hopefully someone else will have the answer.
