Musician Nikolas dedicates song to Abacare carers

Published: 15th May 2020 12:06

MUSICIAN Nikolas Metaxas has dedicated his latest song ‘Change the World’ to all the staff at an award-winning Welsh care agency providing care to the elderly and vulnerable in their own homes (May, 2020).

He has honoured carers at Abacare, part of City & County Healthcare Group, with the song to thank them for supporting thousands of people with care in their own homes during the current COVID-19 outbreak.

Thirty-two-year-old Nikolas said: “My uncle, Peter Angelides, is a Managing Director at Abacare and we chatted recently about the amazing work all of the staff are doing in their local communities for the elderly and how they are protecting the NHS from being overloaded by shielding those who need care from the virus.

“What I heard was so inspiring that I wanted to say a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who is changing lives every day and to everyone protecting communities across the country. I know often they can feel unappreciated at times, but it’s important that they know that it’s them who are making day-to-day life for many elderly and vulnerable individuals that much easier and providing love and support to our loved-ones, when we cannot do it ourselves.

“I would like to dedicate my song ‘Change the World’ to all the Abacare social care workers out there. I hope my song shows people there is a little light at the end of the tunnel and I hope it goes someway to lift people’s spirits.”

People can listen to the song at https://youtu.be/NYyW1IqXnpU.

Nikolas was born in New York and is the eldest of four children. At the age of three he showcased a love for singing along to his dad’s favourite records.

He studied Music Production and Engineering at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Nikolas now lives in London and cites his musical influences as Jeff Buckley, Bon Iver and Bonobo.

Abacare operates a professional Care Management Team that is committed to providing high quality care to individuals in their own homes.

The large team of trained, specialist, care workers provide positive based outcomes and person-centred care to people throughout the UK.

Abacare’s core values, instilled into every staff member, include ‘make us proud’, ‘focus on our service users’ wellbeing’, ‘communicate, listen well and speak with respect’, ‘be passionate, honest, caring and considerate’, ‘recruit and develop the very best’ and ‘lead by example’.

It believes it offers inspiring work for inspirational people as well as a flexible and supported working environment.

Peter Angelides, Managing Director at Abacare, which provides care across Wales, said: “My nephew, Nikolas, is an extremely talented young man and it is wonderful that he is dedicating his song to all of the amazing staff at Abacare.

“Services like ours are alleviating additional pressures on the NHS and its resources, which we know are being tested to the limit at the moment. Our role is to maintain people’s health in the comfort of their own homes and to keep them safe. We’d like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Nikolas for dedicating his song to our staff, we are sure they will all love it.”

Due to the current pandemic, Abacare needs to boost its team numbers immediately, so it can continue to protect its service users and the NHS.

It is calling on anyone who is currently fit and healthy but unable to work, following business closures and restrictions, to sign up for a care role and to help in their own communities.

Abacare can offer full training and paid work immediately to anyone willing to become a professional home carer in Wales.

Peter added: “We’re urging anyone who needs work and feels they can help us to get in touch immediately. If you’ve previously had a customer-facing role, then you’ll have transferrable skills and we can give you full, professional training too. You will be doing invaluable work supporting those most in need, while, also, protecting the NHS. We have had hairdressers, dry liners and even chefs who are no longer able to work, transfer their skills to us.

“We’ll do Skype or Facetime interviews, so you don’t have to leave home unnecessarily. If you are fit and well and want to make a real difference to people’s lives and wish to support the NHS during this crisis, we can train you quickly.

“New recruits are given free uniforms, access to national staff discount scheme for all major brands as well as 28 days paid holiday, paid travel between calls and paid mileage.”

“Anyone interested should contact their local branch and details of these can be found at https://abacare.org.uk/contact-us/. They can also find out more information about job vacancies at www.indeed.com/cmp/Abacare.”

Abacare is a member of the United Kingdom Homecare Association, Ceretas (formerly British Association of Domiciliary Care), The National Homecare Council and The Information Commissioners Office (Data Protection). It is also registered with the Care Inspectorate Wales.
