Community carers needed for roles in their neighbourhoods

PEOPLE from Wales wishing to make a real difference to the neighbourhoods where they live are being invited to take up a paid role in care within their own communities (August 2020).
Abacare has carer positions available across Wales and it says these jobs are highly skilled, well-paid and emotionally rewarding.
Neil Griffiths, Regional Manager at Abacare, which provides care across Wales, said: “Becoming a carer in the community where you live has many benefits but, most importantly, you are vital to the service users you care for and essential to their on-going quality of life.
“Our services and the care our carers provide are essential to anyone who may be experiencing physical disabilities, learning difficulties, spinal injury, mental health difficulties, palliative care and complex neurological complications.
“It is important that people who need extra support are able to remain in their own homes. Research has shown that people who remain at home do do better. Our carers make sure this happens and assist them with living an independent lifestyle.
“Being a carer is a really satisfying job that gives people the opportunity to make a career for themselves that could last a lifetime, something not many other industries can promise at the moment especially with all the redundancies being announced by major retailers and within other industries.”

This includes a company induction, first aid, information on dementia, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users, with the opportunity to achieve Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) after the initial three months probationary period. The Government has also taken steps to ensure a quicker turnaround on DBS checks, so people can get into work quicker.
