Trio of Derbyshire Sisters Selected for County Cricket Squads

Author: Redbrick Published: 24th May 2016 09:35

Three sporting sisters at Ockbrook School are celebrating selection to represent Derbyshire at county level cricket in three different age groups.

Lauren Nutty, 16 and sisters Hannah, 14, and Charlotte, 12 will represent Derbyshire in the Under 17, Under 15 and Under 13 squads. Regulars at Castle Donington Cricket Club, the girls were put forward for county selection by South Derbyshire district, which all three also represent.

Proud mum and nursery teacher at Ockbrook School, Krista Nutty, says: "All three girls have shown a real aptitude for cricket; through the support of the volunteers and coaches at grass root level this opportunity has been made possible. I'm not sure if it's a first but it's certainly quite amazing that all three have been selected for the county squad in their age groups."

Following the news, 16 year old Lauren said: "My sisters and I are so excited to represent Derbyshire this summer. We found a passion for the sport six years ago, alongside our Dad who also plays for Castle Donington, and so this is a great achievement for us!"

All three girls started playing Kwik Cricket (a fun, introduction to cricket) before venturing into playing hardball in the Castle Donington Club boys team. Now, their cricket oriented lifestyle revolves around training with the County team once a fortnight, South Derbyshire and Castle Donington once a week as well as studying and playing matches at Ockbrook School, in Derbyshire.

Tom Brooksby, Headmaster at Ockbrook School, enthused: "Congratulations to Lauren, Hannah and Charlotte, it's great to have such young, budding sports women within the Ockbrook family. We wish you the best of luck this summer and hope you continue to achieve success within the sport."
