Sixth Formers’ Charity Event Raises Over £1,700

A film-themed ‘Night at the Movies' charity fundraiser, organised entirely by Sixth Form students at Ockbrook School in Derbyshire, has raised over £1,700 for a range of local charities.

Autumn Fayre is an annual highlight in the independent, coeducational school's calendar. Participating students aged 16-18 reached out to businesses and the local community and were completely overwhelmed with the response and generous donations received towards raffle prizes.

Tom Brooksby, Head Teacher, Ockbrook School, says: "Everyone really got into the movie theme of the evening and there were some quite outlandish outfits worn by enthusiastic students and staff. Film-related games and food and drink stalls contributed to the overall glamour of the event. And that spirit of generosity was reflected in the amazing support we received for the school's two chosen charities: Upbeat Communities and The Moravian Bus Fund.

"A huge congratulations to our fantastic Sixth From students who gave up their time to make the event such a success. They've set the bar very high for next year! I'd also like to thank the very kind donations from friends, families and businesses. The monies will now be split between our two chosen charities."

Among the many raffle prizes were tickets to White Post Farm, Tate Liverpool Winter Exhibition and the Derby Live pantomime, Peter Pan, as well as free admission to National Trust Property Calke Abbey. Friends and families also kindly donated food hampers and gift vouchers.

Upbeat Communities is a Christian charity based in Derby and offers support and friendship to refugees who come to settle in the UK - https://www.upbeatcommunities.org.

The Moravian Bus Fund is a personal project to Ockbrook School. The Moravian Institute in Rajpur, Dehradun is Ockbrook's sister school. Located up in the mountains, the bus is relied on by many of its students. Education is a way out of poverty for these children and many have to travel a long way each day. https://moravianinstitute.com/
