Music for the album centres on four exciting commissions, where prestigious composers from classical, pop, and film worlds have sought input from choir members to help them write songs around the theme of remembrance, commemoration, patriotism and military life.
The album also encompasses music from ages past and present, referencing upbeat First World War marching songs, iconic regimental and service marches, beautifully contemplative remembrance pieces, and contemporary songs reflecting our choirs' world, all with a fresh take through creative arrangements and collaboration with world-class military musicians.
As military wives, this is an opportunity for us to tell the story like no-one else can. Support from the home front, and a perspective on conflict, both modern and historical from those that are and were left behind. As some of our members are also serving military, this gives us an opportunity to reflect on the reality of conflict from a female perspective.
This album cannot be recorded unless we receive enough pre-orders for it, through the Military Wives Choirs' pledge music campaign, by 16th December 2017. The album can be pre-ordered at www.pledgemusic.com/projects/mwc. Funds from card payments will not leave accounts until enough pre-orders are received for the album to be recorded.
The Portsmouth Military Wives Choir are particularly honoured to be a part of such a special commemorative project, especially given the very proud history of service and sacrifice that our region has made to Defence in the last 100 years.
