Silverstone celebrates 70th Anniversary with commemorative parades at the 2018 Formula 1 Rolex British Grand Prix

Silverstone Circuit is celebrating its 70th anniversary on 2 October 2018 and, to mark the occasion, fans attending the 2018 Formula 1 Rolex British Grand Prix (5 – 8 July) will be treated to three special commemorative parades featuring F1 cars and drivers that have provided unforgettable moments in the circuit’s 70 year history.

The three parades, taking place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the event, will feature a host of cars and drivers that have played a key part in the history of Silverstone and Formula 1 with seven decades of motorsport represented from 1948 through to modern day.

In addition to the parades, all cars will be on display in the Heritage Paddock and fans with an Inner Track pass for the event will be able to walk around the display and meet with the owners and mechanics who work on these amazing machines. The Inner Track pass not only gives access to this area but to all the support race paddocks enabling fans to get close to the FIA Formula 2, GP3 and Masters Historic Formula 1 Championship teams and drivers. Spectators with the Inner Track pass will also have a wider variety of viewing options available to them as general admission areas on the centre of the circuit will be accessible with this ticket.

Spectators in this area will be treated to performances throughout the weekend from the Chris Barber band, one of the most influential groups in the history of British Jazz, on the Silverstone bandstand. The Chris Barber band has been a big part of Silverstone’s history playing at the British Grand Prix and other major events since the 1950’s and, along with a themed catering area, will generate a fantastic period atmosphere in the Heritage Paddock.

Stuart Pringle, Managing Director of Silverstone commented “We ran a similar parade and display in 2014 to celebrate our 50th Grand Prix and it was extremely well received by the fans so we are delighted to be re-introducing this feature to celebrate Silverstone’s 70th anniversary. The search is now on for suitable cars and drivers willing to join us in this commemorative event and we look forward to announcing the line up in due course.”

Tickets for the 2018 FORMULA 1 ROLEX BRITISH GRAND PRIX are available from £75pp, children aged under 11 are free. Inner Track passes are available from £30pp and must be used with a vaild British Grand Prix ticket.
