Author: Redbrick Published: 5th June 2019 10:08

Talented students at an independent co-educational school in Derbyshire are celebrating success at this year's Derby Arts Festival after achieving a total of 64 podium places.

The popular festival is an annual music, dance and drama talent contest with tough competition from thousands of participants. Ockbrook School students proudly walked away with 18 trophies, 25 second place awards and 21 third places.

Tom Brooksby is Headmaster at Ockbrook School. He says: "Once again our students have excelled at Derby Arts Festival with a total of 64 awards; this is Ockbrook School's best ever result. This success is also a reflection of support applied by our talented teaching staff and the many hours they invest in coaching our students. Everyone involved should be extremely proud of their achievements. Congratulations!"

In the Instrumental section, a total of 59 podium positions were achieved, with 17 first place awards from students ranging from six to 18-years-old. Three honours marks were awarded for outstanding performances, including Ella Ratcliff, 10, for her ‘Jazz Rock and Pop Solo' and Edric Garner, 11, for his ‘Piano Solo' and ‘Piano Duet with Teacher Piano'.

In addition to stellar performances within the Instrumental section, Edric Garner has been invited to perform at the Festival Gala Concert and Isabel Blockley, 13, to perform at the Festival Winner's Concert.

Within the Speech and Drama section, podium positions were awarded to Isabelle Massie, 14, first place in her class for ‘Verse Speaking'; second place for Abigail Evans, 17, ‘Solo Acting from Shakespeare' and Lotty Bricklebank, 11, for ‘Prose Reading', as well as third place for Meghan Crumpton, 11, ‘Verse Speaking'.

Jane Ford is one of the visiting music teachers at Ockbrook School: "Students really did excel themselves this year at Derby Arts Festival. Everyone worked phenomenally hard; we couldn't be prouder of each and every one who took part. What a wonderful week of music-making we have enjoyed together."

Ockbrook School has long enjoyed a reputation for its excellence in music and drama, with students progressing to some of the country's top universities and most recognised institutions. For more information visit: www.ockbrooksch.co.uk.
