Change Lives awareness week launches in Devon

Published: 17th July 2019 13:19

A DEVON care provider is raising awareness of what it’s like to work in the industry and how rewarding it can be via a special week dedicated to the topic next month (August 2019).

Guardian Homecare, a domiciliary care provider that provides services in Exeter and Torbay, is launching a #ChangeLives awareness week on its social media and on the ground from August 5 until 9.

Guardian Homecare’s Manager, Catherine Porter said: “We are regularly campaigning for care work to be taken more seriously as a career, which is why we have decided to host this week to help raise awareness. We’ll be allowing the general public to see behind-the-scenes and find out what really goes on here in Devon, and how rewarding and fulfilling a role in homecare can be.

“Over on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Guardian-Homecare-1816711168366752/) we’ll be posting pictures, stories and videos from the very carers that are out working in the field. They’ll be visiting service users, carrying out training, giving inspiration to others who might want to work in the industry and answering your questions, so please give us a like and keep an eye on your feed during the week.

“We will be using the same hashtag across its Facebook and Twitter pages, allowing people to see just how much hard work is involved in one week of caring here in Devon.”

The topics covered on social media during the week include the chance to follow a carer as they go about their day-to-day duties, take a look at what Guardian Homecare’s training involves and hear from carers about how rewarding the industry can be.

“We’re inviting anyone interested to find out how we can #ChangeLives. They will be able to hear from our service users and ask us anything about the world of care and what it’s like to work in the industry.”

Guardian Homecare delivers personalised home care supporting people wishing to stay living safely and comfortably in their own homes in south Devon.

It says, despite the current culture of change in the fast-paced world of employment, care gives people the chance to create a worthwhile career for themselves that has longevity and security. If people are looking for a job for life with training and career advancement opportunities, then it is one of the few sectors that can offer this, says Guardian Homecare.

Catherine continued: “Although we have a team of nearly 200 carers already in Devon we’re looking currently for more recruits and are keen to hear from people who are honest, committed, reliable and caring.

“We offer new recruits a five-day training induction and a 12-week onboard programme working towards a care certificate. We also offer flexible working hours, both full and part-time, as well as competitive wages and generous holiday allocation.

“It is a great opportunity for people to achieve a recognised qualification and they’ll also be able to have access to exclusive discounts online and in-store from retailers including Tesco, Primark and Argos.”

Guardian Homecare offers training and the opportunity for internal advancement. Anyone who joins the team is creating a career path using the different qualifications they can achieve.

New recruits are given free uniforms, access to national staff discount scheme for many major brands, as well as 28 days paid holiday, paid travel between calls and paid mileage.
