Devon bosses making redundancies asked to give those losing jobs details of care roles

Published: 7th July 2020 17:56

DEVON firms making redundancies are being asked by a home care provider to pass on details of care roles to former employees to help fill its 100 plus vacancies (July 2020).

HomeLife Carers says it wants to get in touch with as many of Devon’s non-essential retailers, tourism, catering and hospitality companies where people are most at risk from losing their jobs.

Regional Manager for HomeLife Katie Jewell, who looks after its Barnstaple, Okehampton, Plymouth and Tiverton branches, says: “We’re hoping to highlight the positives and to give people some hope, as we’ve got 100s of roles available in the care sector across Devon with immediate start dates for kind and caring individuals and are offering full training.

“We’re contacting companies we’re hearing about nationally that have local branches or those we’re seeing in the media locally that are making staff redundant. This may be due to restructuring or they are closing down following the constraints and pressures on businesses as a result of the need to lockdown to save lives during the coronavirus pandemic.

“We understand there are thousands of jobs at risk as more and more household names announce they are trying to save costs or have brought in the administrators as they can no longer continue to trade. This month already these have included Upper Crust, easyJet and Harveys.

“Some 5,000 jobs will be lost at SSP Group, which owns the Upper Crust fast food brand. The job losses could affect up to 55% of its workforce. Everyday there is more devasting news like this and we feel it’s important for people to also hear about the good news stories out there, and the industries like ours that are recruiting.”

HomeLife, which has teams operating across Devon, is looking to hire 100s of new carers to provide care to its service users and those of its sister company, Guardian Homecare, and it is offering flexible and supported learning for those wishing to advance their careers.

“The demand for carers in Devon will not fail and our profession represents one of the few jobs for life left in the county and country. As a nation we have an ageing population that wishes to remain living at home and, that the authorities realise, are emotionally and physically better off at home. This means the care sector is rapidly expanding, as people need care in their old age, so there will always be jobs available in home care.”

HomeLife is currently searching for more honest and kind-hearted individuals to help add to its teams in the county.

Anyone interested in a position should visit https://www.homelifecarers.co.uk for details on how to request an application pack and apply remotely.

Katie added: “We are looking for more than 100 kind, honest, caring and reliable individuals who wish to have a stable and long-term career in care, and who would like to forge rewarding relationships with the service users they care for. No experience is necessary to become a carer, as free, full training is given.

“We offer new recruits a five-day training induction and a 12-week on-boarding programme working towards a care certificate. We also offer flexible working hours, both full and part-time, as well as competitive wages and generous holiday allocation.

“It is a great opportunity for people to achieve a recognised qualification and they’ll also be able to have access to exclusive discounts online and in-store from retailers including Tesco, Primark and Argos.”
