The free ‘Closer to Food' event will take place from 12pm - 7pm on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th August August with demonstrations on the hour at 12, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6pm. Popular restaurant brands from Princesshay including wagamama, Coal and Strada will all be taking part as well as the acclaimed two star Michelin chef Michael Caines MBE, who will be joined by students from his successful Michael Caines Academy at Exeter College on Friday night from 5pm.

A very special appearance will also be made by Ed Baines, celebrity chef and judge on ‘Britain's Best Dish' who will be wowing the crowds with his culinary skills on Saturday.

Wayne Pearce, Princesshay Centre Manager said, "This summer Princesshay wants to celebrate the selection of quality food and talent in Exeter and the region. We're really excited to announce appearances from top celebrity chefs and encourage visitors and shoppers to put this date in their diaries. The event is completely free and we plan to create a chill out area with live music for visitors to relax in while watching two days of culinary delights!"

Princesshay's talented chef's will all be cooking up a storm over the two days inspiring foodies and shoppers alike to get ‘Closer to Food' and use the abundance of fantastic local produce available throughout the South West.

To celebrate the event and long summer evenings, some of Princesshay retailers will be extending their opening hours until 7pm on both event days.

The event is free to attend but the Princesshay team will be fundraising for St Loye's Foundation, their official charity of the year. Live local musical entertainment in between cookery demonstrations will play out sounds of the summer for shoppers and diners to enjoy.

A dedicated ‘Cookie Club' children's area will be keeping future foodies entertained with a fun, cookie decorating masterclass getting them tasting, creating, learning and exploring their own food. Pictures of the cookie masterpieces will be uploaded onto the Princesshay Facebook page.

During July a cake decorating competition in Princesshay will encourage shoppers to decorate a cup cake in a unique way. The best designs will go through to a live final on stage at the ‘Closer to Food' event with the winner from the live event receiving a voucher for dinner for two in a participating retailer.
