Guardian Homecare boosts workers’ employability through training and development

Published: 15th April 2019 11:25

A DEVON care provider says it is helping to improve society after the Government announced (March 2019) those that want a share of the £49bn it spends on outside organisations must do more.

Guardian Homecare, which has offices in Brixham and Exeter, says it plays a huge role in the community and it is boosting workers’ employability tremendously through staff training programmes.

Katie Jewell, who is a Regional Manager with Guardian Homecare, said: “Each year the Government spends money to support external organisations and it is right that it goes to those who are doing their best to improve society and meet high standards.

“At Guardian Homecare we are immensely proud of the training and development we can provide our employees with. This includes being able to upskill our existing and new staff through apprenticeship qualifications, from level two up to level five including Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), for everyone regardless of age or seniority in the business.

“By supporting our staff and encouraging their career advancement and providing opportunities to strengthen and extend their knowledge we’re also helping provide an exceptional service to all those members of the public we support too.

“The quality of our service is the most important thing for us. We employ nearly 200 local people and offer a comprehensive five-day induction programme to ensure all our staff have all the training and support they need to carry out their roles professionally and competently.

“We value all of our staff and our continued growth provides opportunities for us to promote from within. Several of our senior managers began their careers with us as domiciliary carers and we are delighted to see them move up the ranks to more senior roles supporting our new recruits.”

Guardian Homecare works with a dedicated domiciliary care sector training company to deliver its training and development initiatives.

It says, despite the current culture of change in the fast-paced world of employment, care gives people the chance to create a worthwhile career for themselves that has longevity and security. If people are looking for a job for life with training and career advancement opportunities, then it is one of the few sectors that can offer this, says Guardian Homecare.

Katie added: “AAA Training Solutions specialises in apprenticeship management and assisting organisations like ourselves. They deliver apprenticeships and the high-quality training we need at all levels for our team. They work closely with us to provide programmes that specifically meet our needs and to assist with upskilling our existing workforce through the qualification.

“Contrary to popular belief, apprenticeships aren’t just for school leavers seeking a route into employment. They are in fact potentially invaluable to all staff within our organisation too.”

Guardian Homecare delivers personalised home care supporting people wishing to stay living safely and comfortably in their own homes in south Devon.

It is currently searching for honest and kind-hearted individuals to help add to its teams in the county.

Katie added: “If you are a caring person, with or without experience, Guardian Homecare can help you achieve your goals to become an exceptional carer. We offer training, competitive rates, travel time for walkers and drivers, mileage payments, consistent hours and runs, a refer a friend scheme and national discount scheme for major brands.”

Anyone interested in a position should call Guardian Homecare on 01803 853198 to request an application pack or drop in at its Drew Street branch in Brixham, or its Broadclyst office in Exeter, in April during normal office hours for an informal chat.

Guardian Homecare offers training and the opportunity for internal advancement. Anyone who joins the team is creating a career path using the different qualifications they can achieve.

Katie added: “Being dependable is key to this role as people will be looking after the needs of vulnerable adults. Applicants also need to be even-tempered and caring and must enjoy making a positive difference to people’s lives.

“Being patient, able to cope with change and having the ability to display empathy and warmth are also essential.”
