Donna to demo at Truro Food Festival

Published: 6th September 2019 13:05

A LEADING female chef from a Westcountry gastropub with numerous awards to its name will be hosting a cookery demonstration in Cornwall as part of the Truro Food Festival (September, 2019).

Donna Berry, who co-owns the multi-award-winning, Swan in Bampton, Devon, will be holding the demo at the festival at Lemon Quay in Truro on September 29 from 4pm in The Chef’s Theatre section.

She said: “I’m thrilled to have been asked to cook at the food festival. I will be demonstrating how to cook two different dishes using risotto rice. A seafood risotto and then a mushroom arancini, which are both dishes people can try making at home.

“The festival organisers are keen to have a total parity of male and female chefs, so I am honoured to have been chosen as part of the line-up. It is the first ever cookery demo I have hosted, so I hope lots of people pop along to learn how to make something new.”

The event, which runs from September 27 until 29, will celebrate the best of Cornish food and drink and will welcome more than 30,000 visitors.

There will be celebrity and regional chef demos, a Cornish food hall full of south west produce, workshops, family fun, gourmet street food and live entertainment.

During the evenings, there will be music and dancing, as well as an array of Cornish beers and ciders available.

Tickets are available from www.trurofoodfestival.com.

Donna owns and runs The Swan with her husband and fellow chef, Paul.

The pub has recently retained its four AA Gold Stars as well as two AA Rosettes for Culinary Excellence for five years running and was named by the AA as the nation’s ‘Inn of the Year’ 2019. It also polled in at number 20 in the ‘Estrella Damm’ Top 50 Gastropub Awards this year. It was the highest climber in the list in 2018, when it was rated 28th.

The Swan was named Gold Tourism Pub of the Year 2018 at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards and was voted Best Dining Pub for 2018 in the Trencherman Awards.

Donna was also one of three finalists in the Devon Life and Trencherman Awards in 2018.

After the success of The Swan, Donna had a vision to create a new concept style restaurant and launched Spelt at an old bakery shop in Bampton, offering a selection of dishes developed for sharing. Spelt is set to open this month.

Donna will be cooking at Truro Food Festival at Lemon Quay in Truro on Sunday, September 29 from 4pm in The Chef’s Theatre.
