Ensure you make a difference in Devon in 2021

Published: 5th January 2021 15:15

DEVON residents wishing to make a difference this year (2021) in the communities and neighbourhoods where they live are being invited to take up a role in care in the county.

Guardian Homecare, operating in Torbay and Exeter, has 100 carer positions available that are vital to its service users’ quality of life. Each position offers benefits, training and career advancement.

Manager, Catherine Porter explains: “Our services and the care our carers provide are essential to anyone who is elderly and vulnerable.

“It is important that people who need extra support are able to remain in their own homes. Our carers ensure this happens and assist them with living an independent lifestyle, as research has shown that people who remain at home do better.

“We’re also keen to show that a career in care is poorly paid and staff lack training, support and benefits. Our carers are more important than ever at the moment, due to COVID-19, as they are protecting the NHS by keeping people safely at home.”

Guardian Homecare, which has teams in Torbay and in Exeter, wants to hear from kind, honest and reliable people who are considering making a career for themselves in the care industry in 2021 and would like to find out more.

Field Care Supervisor, Julia Horton champions person-centred care in her community. She has worked in the industry for 10 years and her role includes visiting new service users and setting up their care plan using a person-centred approach.

She says: “I really like working out in my community, meeting new people in a COVID safe way and helping to create a person-centred plan that enables them to stay at home and live as independently as they choose with our support. It’s a very rewarding job.”

Guardian Homecare provides all its staff with full, paid training and colleague shadowing at the start, and they have, additional, on the job support from the team 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“We give free uniforms and a national staff discount scheme for all major brands with exclusive discounts online and in-store from retailers including Tesco, Primark and Argos, and it also covers holidays and electrical goods. We have jobs available in south Devon now with immediate start, no experience necessary, just a willingness to care and to learn.”

Guardian Homecare delivers personalised home care supporting people wishing to stay living safely and comfortably in their own homes in south Devon.

It currently employs nearly 200 carers and is searching for more honest and kind-hearted individuals to help add to its teams in the county.

Catherine adds: “We are looking for new recruits to help make a difference within communities across south Devon by caring for individuals seeking extra support.

“Carers who join our team will help to provide domiciliary and live-in care as well as dementia care.”

The large team of trained, specialist, care workers provide positive based outcomes and person centred care to people throughout south Devon.

“We are fighting against the current economic climate and are filling more positions than ever. This is a great opportunity for those looking for a completely new and exciting opportunity in 2021 to work in this very rewarding role.

“Being a carer is a really satisfying job and gives people the opportunity to create a worthwhile and long-term career for themselves.”

“No experience is necessary to become a carer, as we offer free, full training, which includes a company induction, first aid, information on dementia, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users, with the opportunity to achieve industry-recognised qualifications after the initial six months probationary period.”

New recruits are given free uniforms, access to national staff discount scheme for many major brands, as well as 28 days paid holiday, paid travel between calls and paid mileage.

“Being dependable is key to this role as people will be looking after the needs of vulnerable adults. Applicants also need to be even-tempered and caring and must enjoy making a positive difference to people’s lives.

“Being patient, able to cope with change and having the ability to display empathy and warmth are also essential. Candidates will need to have their own transport and mobile phone. We cover any costs incurred related to work.”
