Published: 30th January 2020 12:35

A LEADING Devon home care agency is supporting a recruitment drive in partnership with 16 Local Authorities and Health Education England to find more care workers for the county (February 2020).

Guardian Homecare has welcomed the activities of Proud to Care South West, which is working at a regional level to raise the profile of careers in care and health.

Catherine Porter, Manager at Guardian Homecare, which operates across south Devon, says: “We’re delighted Proud to Care South West is working with care providers such as ourselves to increase carer numbers in the county.

“There is always a need for care workers and we’re fully supporting their on-going recruitment campaigns to ensure people can be cared for by experts.

“Proud to Care South West is helping find new carers in Devon and working with care providers like us in the area to ensure carers can be supplied. The organisation also hosts careers fairs, which offer a unique opportunity for people considering a care or healthcare role to meet NHS Trusts, social enterprises, care providers, GPs and pharmacists, as well as local education providers, to find out more about jobs, courses and careers in health and care.

“Their next two events in the areas where we have teams are on Saturday, March 7 at the Rougemont Hotel, Exeter and then on Saturday, March 28 at Torquay Town Hall. Both careers fairs will run from 10am until 3pm

“In the meantime, anyone interested in becoming part of our team in south Devon, should get in touch with us for a friendly and informal chat.”

Guardian Homecare, which has teams operating in Torbay and Exeter, is looking to hire 100 new carers to provide care to its service users this year and is offering flexible and supported learning for those wishing to advance their careers.

“No experience is necessary, just a willingness to care and to learn. We offer free, full training, which includes a company induction, first aid, information on dementia, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users, with the opportunity to achieve industry-recognised qualifications after the initial six months probationary period.

“There are lots of opportunities for internal advancement for all our team members who show commitment, reliability and true passion. We provide a great support network for all of our carers too.”

Catherine and her team want to hear from kind, honest and reliable people who are considering making a career for themselves in the care industry and would like to find out more.

“We provide all our staff full paid training and shadowing before they start, and they have additional, on the job support from a local team 24/7. We give free uniforms and a national staff discount scheme for all major brands including Tesco, Primark and Argos. It also covers holidays and electrical goods. We have jobs available in south Devon now with immediate start, no experience necessary, just a willingness to care and to learn.”
