Old Cleeve School prove Combe Sydenham a triumph

Combe Sydenham have been awarded their sixth prestigious Sandford Award by the Heritage Education Trust after a visit from an inspector who spent the day in the company of River Class from Old Cleeve School and class teacher Mr. Dan Perry.
Combe Sydenham is in exalted company in holding so many Sandford Awards. Through out Britain and Ireland no more than a handful of properties hold so many including the Royal Armouries and Blenheim Palace.
The Judge's Report ends with the following citation: "Combe Sydenham is the sort of idiosyncratic property that breaks the mould and is what heritage education and the Sandford Award are all about. It offers outstanding experiences for its visiting school parties, delivered in a relaxed atmosphere where learning is flexible, cross-curricular and highly creative, and where learning opportunities are grasped as they arise, rather than being pre-programmed and rigid. At the same time careful planning and excellent links with local schools ensure that the service is exactly what the users want - superb!"
Mr. And Mrs. Theed, owners of Combe Sydenham, visited Old Cleeve School on the last day of term to thank the children for their contribution to Combe Sydenham gaining this award and were warmly welcomed by the headteacher, Ms Nicola Darby.

Mr. Theed asked the children as they stood waiting for the photograph who had visited Combe Sydenham, every hand shot up. He then asked who had enjoyed their visit, every hand stayed up! In fact every class from Old Cleeve School has made more than one visit. A variety of other schools have also visited from Somerset and Devon and also from the private sector.
Combe Sydenham is one of the first properties in the West Country to be awarded the equally important Learning outside the Classroom Badge accreditation for school visits.
Combe Sydenham also offers exciting holiday activities for children and parents during August. Contact John Burns on 0800 7838572.
