New Year? New professional career with Guardian Homecare

Published: 29th December 2020 12:56

A SOUTH Devon home care provider wants residents whose New Year’s resolution is to find a new community-based vocation to consider a career in care (January 2021).

Guardian Homecare, which operates in the Torbay and Exeter areas, wants to hear from kind, honest and reliable people who are thinking about a career in the care.

Manager, Catherine Porter, who is based at the care provider’s Drew Street branch in Brixham, explains: “The New Year is the perfect opportunity for anyone wanting to make a career change to finally take that leap and do it.

“To help anyone interested in finding out more about a career in care, we’re hosting virtual opens days at our branches in January, so people can make contact with us via telephone or video call for an informal chat. These days will be every Thursday in January from 10am until 3pm.”

Guardian Homecare, which has teams in Torbay and in Exeter, wants to hear from kind, honest and reliable people who are considering making a career for themselves in the care industry in 2021 and would like to find out more.

The company provides all its staff with full, paid training and colleague shadowing at the start, and offers additional, on the job support from the team 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Guardian Homecare delivers personalised home care supporting people wishing to stay living safely and comfortably in their own homes in south Devon.

It currently employs nearly 200 carers and is searching for more honest and kind-hearted individuals to help add to its teams in the county.

Catherine added: “Being able to look after our elderly and vulnerable service users properly at home helps reduce the stresses and strains on the NHS by keeping them where they are safe, especially at the moment.

“No experience is necessary to become a carer, as we offer free, full training, which includes a company induction, first aid, information on dementia, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users, with the opportunity to achieve industry-recognised qualifications after the initial six months probationary period.”

New recruits are given free uniforms, access to national staff discount scheme for many major brands, such as online and in-store retailers, including Tesco, Primark and Argos. It also covers holidays and electrical goods.

Guardian Homecare provides 28 days paid holiday, paid travel between calls and paid mileage too.

“Being dependable is key to this role, as those who join us will be looking after the needs of vulnerable adults. Applicants also need to be even-tempered and caring and must enjoy making a positive difference to people’s lives.

“Being patient, able to cope with change and having the ability to display empathy and warmth are also essential. Candidates will need to have their own transport and mobile phone. We cover any costs incurred related to work.”
