Devonians wanting a career change encouraged to try care

Published: 1st September 2020 12:46

WORKERS in south Devon looking for a career change are being invited to contact a care agency that provides services across the county this month (September 2020).

Guardian Homecare has more than 100 positions available in Devon and is asking anyone interested in switching professions to get in touch to find out about a role in care.

Manager, Catherine Porter says: “We have care worker vacancies for people looking for a career change in south Devon, particularly in Torbay and Exeter, and the surrounding areas.

“Being a carer is a very rewarding job and gives people the opportunity to carve out a career for themselves.

“Every successful applicant receives full training, which includes a company induction, first aid, information on dementia, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users.

“We also offer the chance to gain qualifications and career progression to all our team members who show commitment, reliability and passion for their role. We provide a great support network for all of our carers too.”

Guardian Homecare, which has teams operating in Torbay and Exeter, is looking to hire 100 new carers to provide care to its service users this year and is offering flexible and supported learning for those wishing to advance their careers.

“Being reliable is essential for anyone wishing to become a carer, as we look after the needs of vulnerable adults. Applicants also need to be even tempered and caring and must enjoy making a positive difference to people’s lives.

“Being patient, able to cope with change and having the ability to display empathy and warmth are also vital in our work.”

Catherine and her team want to hear from kind, honest and reliable people who are considering making a career for themselves in the care industry and would like to find out more.

“No experience is necessary, just a willingness to care and to learn. We offer free, full training, which includes a company induction, first aid, information on dementia, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users, with the opportunity to achieve industry-recognised qualifications after the initial six months probationary period.

“There are lots of opportunities for internal advancement for all our team members who show commitment, reliability and true passion. We provide a great support network for all of our carers too.

“We provide all our staff full paid training and shadowing before they start, and they have additional, on the job support from a local team 24/7. We give free uniforms and a national staff discount scheme for all major brands including Tesco, Primark and Argos. It also covers holidays and electrical goods.

We have jobs available in south Devon now with immediate start, no experience necessary, just a willingness to care and to learn.”
