Devonians wanting a career change urged to try care

Published: 12th March 2019 15:05

A DEVON care provider is urging kind and caring individuals to put themselves forward this month to become a care worker in the county's Torbay and Exeter areas (March 2019).

Guardian Homecare, which has offices in Drew Street in Brixham, and Broadclyst in Exeter, is looking to hire 100 new carers with immediate start dates to care for its home-bound service users.

Regional Manager, Katie Jewell said: "Anyone interested in a position should call us on 01803 853198 to request an application pack or drop in at our branches in March during normal office hours for an informal chat. The average weekly earnings for someone working a 40-hour week as a carer would be £375. Contrary to popular belief, it's a role with good pay and benefits, such as staff discounts with all the national major retailers, as well as offering people the chance to advance through career progression.

"We have care worker vacancies, including live-in positions, available today for people looking for a career change in south Devon, particularly in Torbay and Exeter, and the surrounding areas.

"Being a carer is a very rewarding job and gives people the opportunity to carve a career for themselves.

"Every successful applicant receives full training, which includes a company induction, first aid, information on dementia, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users.

"We also offer the chance to gain qualifications and career progression to all our team members who show commitment, reliability and passion for their role. We provide a great support network for all of our carers too.

"Being reliable is essential for anyone wishing to become a carer, as we look after the needs of vulnerable adults. Applicants also need to be even tempered and caring and must enjoy making a positive difference to people's lives.

"Being patient, able to cope with change and having the ability to display empathy and warmth are also vital in our work."

Katie and her team want to hear from kind, honest and reliable people who are considering making a career for themselves in the care industry and would like to find out more.

"No experience is necessary, just a willingness to care and to learn. We offer free, full training, which includes a company induction, first aid, information on dementia, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users, with the opportunity to achieve industry-recognised qualifications after the initial six months probationary period.

"There are lots of opportunities for internal advancement for all our team members who show commitment, reliability and true passion. We provide a great support network for all of our carers too.

We provide all our staff full paid training and shadowing before they start, and they have additional, on the job support from a local team 24/7. We give free uniforms and a national staff discount scheme for all major brands. We have jobs available in south Devon now with immediate start, no experience necessary, just a willingness to care and to learn."
